  • Two men repaint the walls of one of the Rashivalaya Yantra architectural astronomical instruments, at Jaipur's Jantar Mantar, an open-air observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. Jantar Mantar consists of fourteen major geometric systems for measuring time, predicting eclipses and to probe the heavens.

  • The setting sun's rays filters through a layer of clouds hanging over the Crown Range valley, Central Otago, South Island, New Zealand. The Crown Range mountains overlook Lake Wakatipu, near the city of Queenstown. In the 1860s, this part of Central Otago was at the center of a relatively brief gold rush. Today it is synonymous with alpine sports and picturesque expanses attracting visitors from all around the world.
  • The ever changing sand dunes of Farewell Spit take on a fiery hue as the sun sets. The sand formation located at the very tip of New Zealand's South Island stretches for 25Km into the ocean. While its name implies a differentiation from other rhinoceroses species, the shape of its mouth - hook shape - is the only obvious visual difference. One of the rarest species is the sociable Northern White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni), with only 7 individuals living in captivity in Kenya (Ol Pejeta Conservancy) and California (San Diego Wild Animal Park).

The Sabinyo group, whose dominant silverback Guhonda is the largest and heaviest gorilla (of any race) ever measured at 250 Kg.<br /> <br /> Central Africa's mountain gorillas face danger from poachers, illegal mining and logging; and from hunters killing great apes for meat.

  • The tui (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) is one of New Zealand's most territorial native birds. Its unique white throat tufts, feather collar and dark green plumage make it one of New Zealand's most distinctive birds.   • Following a long-standing Sikh ritual, two young men bathe in the 'Sarovar', the sacred lake surrounding the Swarna Mandir (Golden Temple). The serenity of this place of worship contrasts with the tragic events of the 1980s. In one 1983 incident, Sikh separatists and indian troops were involved in a fierce firefight inside the temple compound. The casualties were a trigger for the events leading to the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the ensuing riots killing more than 4000.
