  • A Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) standing in the Savanna, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya.<br /> <br /> From several hundred thousands to less than four thousand alive today, the population of the solitary Black Rhinoceros is one of the sadder tales of African wildlife in the 20th century. While its name implies a differentiation from other rhinoceroses species, the shape of its mouth - hook shape - is the only obvious visual difference. One of the rarest species is the sociable Northern White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni), with only 7 individuals living in captivity in Kenya (Ol Pejeta Conservancy) and California (San Diego Wild Animal Park).
