The giant solar storm from Tuesday paints a beautiful Aurora Borealis in the sky near Alta, in Norway's Finnmark region. Following two massive eruptions on the surface of the Sun last Sunday, electrically-charged particles travelled towards the Earth and collided with the oxygen in our atmosphere, creating the typical auroral green waves mesmerizing millions around the world. Sometimes, the Aurora takes on a red hue when solar particles collide with the oxygen and other gases in the very top layers of our planet's atmosphere.
